Provides support to new tutors throughout their first experience of GPN
Request the list of new tutors from the node’s committee, including their names, emails, which rooms they will be in and what their morning jobs are.
Take note of leads for morning jobs.
Use new tutor email template and send it to new tutors in the week prior to the event with information that includes:

WWCC form
Personal contact number for event day cancellations or issues.
Expected arrival time.
Map of Building entrance.
Introduce yourself to the new tutors.
Help answer any questions they have about the event, roles or tutoring.
Assist them with any of the content or documentation.
Check to see if they’ve completed their WWCC.
Get a lead hat and New Tutor Lead Lanyard.
Due to the morning meeting, New Tutor Lead cannot be a lead of a morning job.
Stand near the tutor sign-in table and keep an eye on who is checking in and introduce yourself to new tutors
Take note of when the morning job leads sign in and introduce yourself and your role.
Support the new tutors in guiding them to where to get changed and inform them you will have a short meeting.
Greet tutors you met at the practice party.
Respond to texts from any tutors who are running late or can no longer attend and inform event leads/remove the tutors from the check-in list.
Take the new tutors aside for the new tutor briefing and discuss:
Introductions: Name, What they do (studying or working) and their favourite dessert.
Explain your role and responsibility.
Emergency exits and emergency meeting points.
Rule of 3 (2 students and tutor, 2 tutors and 1 student)
If there’s enough recurring tutors, new tutors can come to lunch early when they call students/tutors who have dietary requirements.
Remind them that tutors will be upfront and complete the “Name Verb Noun” during the welcome speech. if applicable
See something, do something. Tutors are empowered to make decisions and
Point out Event Leads, Well-being officer, Safety officer and explain the hat system.
It's okay to take an extended break, outside the classroom. Make sure you inform your room lead.
If they attended the practice party, ask what their morning job is and point out the lead for this role or where that job takes place within the building.
Tips and Tricks of Tutoring.
Loose schedule of the day.
Ask if they have any questions about tutoring, morning jobs, or afternoon activities.
This is for our tutors to take the time to think about what you want out of GPN. We are here to help you practise those skills, build the community and teach students in the process.
Go up early to lunch with the new tutors and check in on how they are finding their first event and get to know them.
Encourage new tutors to attend debrief if able to get their fresh perspectives on the event.
We don’t reveal the students' skill level, instead we use G for beginners, P for intermediate and N for advanced.
Receive a new pink lanyard and tag saying New Tutor Lead
Add the new tutor lead slide to Practise party slides
Provide the documentation + checklist to the New Tutor Lead
Provide the role allocation and new tutor information to New Tutor Lead.
Ask them for their photo for practice party slides.
Give them access to the Email Service Provider to send emails and respond to new tutors.
Add the following text to your Role Allocation Email:
New Tutors: If you are a first-time GPN Tutor, you will get an email from our New Tutor Lead with extra information and onboarding so keep an eye out for that!
New Roles: This GPN we have 3 roles:
New Tutor Lead - this role is responsible for onboarding and supporting new tutors. {name} is taking on this role for this workshop
Safety Officer - this role is responsible for the physical safety of everyone at the event. This is the person to go to if you think something is unsafe at the event e.g. a First Aid incident, a hazard. {name} is taking on this role for this workshop.
Wellbeing Officer - this role is responsible for the emotional wellbeing of participants at the event. This is the person to go to if a student is having a hard time at the event, is anxious, or needs extra support. {name} is taking on this role for this workshop
The safety and wellbeing officers will be pointed out at the start of the event and will be wearing a lanyard (Red for safety officer, Purple for wellbeing officer, Pink for new tutor lead) so that they are easy to spot!
